अण्टार्क्टिका तु पृथिव्यां दक्षिणतमः महाद्वीपः। अयं तु दक्षिणे गोलार्द्धे अण्टार्क्टिकानाम्नि क्षेत्रे स्थितः। दक्षिणमहासागरेण च परिवृत्तः। एतस्य क्षेत्रफलं 140 लक्षकिलोमीटरवर्गमितम् अस्ति। अयं तु क्षेत्रफलक्रमानुसारेण महाद्वीपेषु पञ्चमस्थानभाक्। एषः आस्ट्रेलियामहाद्वीपस्य द्विगुणिताकारः। अण्टार्क्टिकामहाद्वीपस्य प्रतिशतम् 98 मितं हिमावृत्तम्। तस्य च हिमावरणस्य स्थौल्यस्य मध्यमानं 1 मीलमितम् इति।
