‘’’Administrators’’’, commonly known as ‘’’admins’’’ or in the past ‘’’sysops’’’ (system operators), are Wikipedia editors trusted with access to restricted technical features ("tools"). For example, administrators can protect, delete and restore pages, move pages over redirects, hide and delete page revisions, and block other editors.
Administrators assume these responsibilities as volunteers; they are not acting as employees of the Wikimedia Foundation. They are never required to use their tools and must never use them to gain an advantage in a dispute in which they are involved.
Becoming a Administrator
Any registered user is eligible to become an administrator, but editors are encouraged to apply after meeting the following recommended criteria:
* More than 500 edits on Sanskrit Wikipedia or more than 4000 global contributions
* Should be confident in knowledge of correct Sanskrit spellings that is "Shuddha Lekhan" or should know from where he can seek online assistance.
* A regular participant in discussions.
Administrators are expected to uphold the trust and confidence of the community, however, and considerable experience is usually expected. Each editor will personally assess their confidence in a particular candidate's readiness in their own way. Before requesting or accepting a nomination, candidates should generally be active and regular Wikipedia contributors, be familiar with the procedures and practices of Wikipedia, respect and understand its policies, and have gained the general trust of the community. An Adminship candidate must place a request on this policy’s talk page.
A request for adminship will be closed and reviewed by a bureaucrat after 7 days from the date of request. This may be extended by a bureaucrat wishing to invite further discussion.
Bureaucrats
thumb|right|200px|प्रशासकस्य चिह्न
Bureaucrats are Wikipedia users with the technical ability to:
* promote other users to administrator or bureaucrat status;
* grant and revoke an account's bot status; and
* rename user accounts.
They are bound by policy and consensus to grant administrator or bureaucrat access only when doing so reflects the wishes of the community, usually after a successful request at विकिपीडियासम्भाषणम्:प्रबंधक. In like fashion, they are expected to exercise judgment in changing usernames, and in granting or removing bot flags. They are expected to be capable judges of consensus, and are expected to explain the reasoning for their actions on request and in a civil manner. Bureaucrats are not super-admins, and have no authority beyond these technical competencies and the domains of requests for user access levels, bot flags, and account renaming.
Bureaucrats do not have the technical ability to remove administrator or bureaucrat rights from users or to grant certain levels of access such as oversight or checkuser rights. These actions are performed by stewards, a small multilingual group of individuals who serve all Wikimedia projects and are elected and reconfirmed annually. Changes in user rights by stewards are recorded at meta:Special:Log/rights; for more information see meta:Requests for permissions.
Becoming a Bureaucrat
Bureaucrat rights can be requested here.
A request for bureaucrat tools will be closed and reviewed by a bureaucrat after 7 days from the date of request.
Removal of these rights
<!--- THIS CLAUSE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE FINAL VERSION, AS OF 1/10/11. REFER DISCUSSION FOR DETAILS
Activity criterion
If a admin or Bureaucrat has less than 10 sysop actions and 25 edits in last 6 months, than any user can request the removal of admin and Bureaucrat rights of that user. As soon as the user in question resumes editing, he is eligible to ask for restoration of his previously held tools.
----->
Misuse of tools
If an administrator or bureaucrat is found by the community to have used his/her privileges in a manner that gives him/her an unfair advantage in a discussion, or in any other way, is damaging to the interests of the encyclopedia, he may face removal of those privileges.
Emergency
In case an administrastor/bureaucrat's account has been believed to have been compromised, the privileges may be removed without the express need of a community discussion.
Appealing the removal of rights
Any user whose administrator/bureaucrat status has been revoked may appeal the decision before the community.
