This template is used to create an infobox in an article about a company.

To use this template in an article, copy the template below, then paste the template into an article.

All parameters are optional – those you do not populate with data will not show up in the infobox when the article is saved.

If you copy-paste the code below, you must remove the HTML comments (between <!-- and -->) if you populate data in parameters below that show comment marks in order for the data to appear in the published article.

An asterisk (*) after a parameter name denotes that it is used only for a defunct company.

With the exception of the genre and aum parameters, which only apply to certain types of companies, do not erase parameters for which you do not have data or which may not apply at the time you create the infobox, unless they can never logically be applicable (e.g. the intl paramter, which is used only for non-U.S.-based companies).

Use the combination of both location_city and location_country parameter to list the company's headquarters location. The old location parameter is deprecated.

Do not use small or <small>...</small> to put parenthetical in a small font; doing so presents an accessibility problem for many readers with imperfect vision.

Note that the examples below are presented in wikicode and do not necessarily reflect actual statistics.

name
The full legal name of the company. This may be different from the common name of the company used for the article title.
Examples: Caterpillar Inc., General Electric Company, Microsoft Corporation
If the company is based in a non-English speaking country, and the company has a non-English name that differs from its English name, use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the two entries, give the English one first, and use Lang to provide the language name for the native version.
Example:
logo
The company's current, primary wordmark and/or logo. Use the logo of the legal entity that is the subject of the article. (That logo may be different from the logo of the parent company or any subsidiary companies.)
For companies that use both a wordmark and a logo, upload a file that shows the two in combination if the combined form serves as the company's primary identity mark.
For a wordmark example, see Microsoft; for a logo example, see Apple Inc.; for a combined logo and wordmark example see Altria.
Upload a wordmark/logo graphic using the organization logo upload form. Do not upload via any other means, especially to Commons, or it will simply be deleted, per WP:COPYRIGHT.
caption
Descriptive information for the logo, if necessary (rarely; most often used for "Logo since YYYY." when a logo has changed).
type
Type of company, wikilinked. (Use the ownership parameter to list ownership percentages for private companies and joint ventures, if applicable.)
Examples: Public, or Private
traded_as
The exchanges and stock ticker symbol(s) of publicly traded companies, using stock ticker templates. Information about the company's status as a component of a major index can also be added. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries.
Example:
A list of available stock ticker symbol templates is available at Category:Ticker symbol templates.
genre
Genre of published works, wikilinked.
This parameter is used for publishing and media companies only. If this parameter is filled, use Infobox publisher instead, unless the company is notable for more than publishing. If the article subject is not a publishing or media company, delete this parameter from the article.
Example: Biographies, Science fiction, Westerns
predecessor
The legal name(s) of the predecessor(s) of the company. Use the full legal name of the company. Wikilink it if notable and if it would not be a circular link. If the infobox company exists as the result of the merger of two or more legal entities, list the predecessors alphabetically. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries.
Example, for Caterpillar Inc.: C. L. Best Tractor Company
successor*
The legal name of the successor(s) of the company. Usually the successor is the company that acquired this company, or two or more companies into which this one split.
Example (as used in NeXT): Apple, Inc.
If a company is broken into parts and sold to several different entities, there may be several successors listed. List the successors alphabetically. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries.
Example: The People's Corporation of Judea
foundation
Location and date of the company's founding (establishment). Use Start date for the date. Location may be in the format of City, State or Province, Country, or simply City, Country if a subnational unit is not conventionally given. Use its most-recognizable name in English and wikilink it. Individually link the city, state/province, and country. Do not use flag icons, per WP:Manual of Style (icons); it places an unnecessary emphasis on nationality and can be misleading.
Example: Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States (1975)
If the founding location is the same as the location_city or location parameter, omit the founding location here, unless the company was founded in this location, moved its headquarters elsewhere, then returned it to the founding city.
founder
Entrepreneur(s) who founded the company. List the founders alphabetically by surname. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries. Do not wikilink a founder unless the person is notable (has or is likely to have a separate article on Wikipedia).
Example: Bill Gates
defunct*
Date (at least year, more specific if known) that the company became defunct (legally dissolved). Use End date for the date.
Examples: 2000 or 2000
fate*
The reason a company became defunct. Provide a reference citation if possible.
Examples: Acquired, Bankrupted, Dissolved, Merged
If the cause of the company's dissolution is unclear, do not populate this field, per WP:No original research.
location_city
Current city, or city and state/province, of the company's headquarters. Use the location's most-recognizable name in English and wikilink each component of it, if not already linked in the foundation parameter. May be in the format of City, State or Province, or simply City if a subnational unit is not conventionally given. If this parameter is used, also populate location_country but do not use the deprecated location parameter.
Examples: Redmond, Washington, or Nuremberg
Do not provide a more specific address, except in the rare case that the location (e.g. the corporate campus) is independently notable (has or is not likely to have its own article on Wikipedia).
location_country
Current country of the company's headquarters. Do not wikilink if, as usual, it is the same country as given in the foundation parameter. Do not use flag icons, per WP:Manual of Style (icons). If this parameter is used, also populate location_city but do not use the deprecated location parameter. Use its most-recognizable name in English and wikilink it.
Example: Germany.
location
Deprecated. Current complete location of the company's headquarters. If this deprecated parameter has been used, replace it with location_city and location_country.
locations
Number of locations the company has physical properties, expressed as a number, followed by the property type, then the applicable year in parentheses.
Example: 815 stores (2011)
area_served
Geographic area(s) the company does business in. Use the largest geographic area(s) that apply. If, for example, a company does business in every province in Canada, list Canada, do not list each province.
Examples: Worldwide, North America, United States, or New York metropolitan area. Do not wikilink if it would be redundant with the linking in a previous parameter, such as foundation or location_country.
key_people
Up to four key individuals closely associated with the company. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries. List them in order of organizational role importance. Give job title(s) in parentheses (round brackets); these job titles are capitalized per WP:Manual of Style (capital letters) because they follow the name. Founders may be added again here, under their job title role.
Generally list prominent, current executives within the company holding key positions such as chairman, chief executive officer, president, VP of design, etc., but do not list roles below chief officer level if they are not notable (do not have and are not likely to have articles on Wikipedia). Do include top executives even not individually notable, but do not wikilink them. Do not redundantly wikilink founders.
Use popular names rather than formal names (match the name used in a Wikipedia article title if an article exists).
For existing companies, it may be appropriate to list, at the end, past executives who played an especially prominent role in the company's history (do not italicize or otherwise emphasize).
For defunct companies, list the most prominent former executives.
Example:
industry
Primary industry and/or business market(s) the company operates in. If the company offers goods and/or services in more than one industry, use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries, and list either alphabetically, or in order of how important each sector is to the company, if this is clear from material already sourced and the importances are markedly different.
Example: Heavy cequipment
products
A representative selection of the company's best known current or former specific products or product types. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries. As with industry, these can be alphabetical or in order of importance to the company.
Examples: Microsoft Windows, or Billiards equipment
services
A representative selection of the company's best known current or former services offered. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries; as with industry, these can be alphabetical or in order of importance to the company.
Example:
revenue
Total net revenue recognized by the company in its most recent fiscal year, with the applicable year in parentheses. Wikilink the currency unit.
Example: US$512,256,128,064 (2011)
operating_income
Total earnings before interest and taxes recognized by the company in its most recent fiscal year, with the applicable year in parentheses.
Example: US$256,128,064,032 (2011)
net_income
Net income or profit realized by the company in its most recent fiscal year, with the applicable year in parentheses.
Example: US$128,064,032,016 (2011)
aum
The company's total assets under management (AUM), with the applicable year in parenthesis.
This entry is used for financial services companies only. If the article subject is not a financial services company, delete this parameter from the article.
Example: US$200,000,000,000 (2011)
assets
Total assets controlled by the company.
Example: US$64,032,016,008 (2011)
equity
Total equity or net worth held in the company.
Example: US$32,016,008,004 (2011)
owner
Use this parameter to list ownership percentages for private companies owned by a few key individuals or to list ownership percentages for joint ventures, if applicable. When listing a company as an owner, use the full legal name of the entity that holds the ownership stake in the article's subject company. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries.
Example: Compagnie Financière Richemont S.A. (50%)
num_employees
Total number of people employed by the company, with the applicable year in parentheses.
Example: 13,493 (2011)
parent
The full legal name of the holding company or parent company if the article's subject company is a division or subsidiary of larger such entity.
Example, in the case of Solar Turbines Incorporated: Caterpillar Inc.
divisions
This parameter records the primary functional business divisions of a company. These divisions are internal, and not legally incorporated subsidiaries. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries. Divisions are usually given in alphabetical order, but where there are quite a few of them, it may be more useful to arrange them by functional area (manufacturing, repair, training), geography (North America, Asia–Pacific, Europe) or customer segment (retail, wholesale). If there is a separate list article of the company's subsidiaries, e.g. List of mergers and acquisitions by Microsoft, link to that list here, rather than attempting to summarize it.
subsid
Primary legally incorporated subsidiaries owned by the company. List the full legal name of each subsidiary, and link to it if notable (has or is likely to have its own article on Wikipedia, not just a circular link back to the main company article). For publicly traded companies, a list of subsidiaries is disclosed in the company's annual report. Use ubl (unbulleted list) or plainlist to format the entries.
Example, for Caterpillar Inc.):
homepage
Top level URL of the company's website, using the URL template. Do not include the leading www. unless the company's server is misconfigured and will not work without it. For multipart names, it is helpful to use camel case capitalization to make them easier to read.
Examples: caterpillar.com, or theumbrellcorporation.com
footnotes
Use to list references used to validate the data in the infobox and to note information about the terms, names and figures used in the infobox.
intl
Enter yes in the data area to change some labels from U.S. terminology to international terminology. Remove this parameter otherwise (|intl=no will not work as expected, and many editors who do not read this template's documentation will incorrectly add yes because they think it means "company has an international presence").

Instructions for the financial results parameters

सम्पादयतु

Six parameter (revenue, operating_income, net_income, aum, assets and equity) are used to record a company's financial information.

Wikilink the first occurrence of the currency unit. This is usually in the |revenue= parameter.

Each parameter entry should include three elements: an indicator icon comparing current result to the result of the immediately preceding period, the result expressed in the currency reported by the company and the financial year the result represents, in parentheses.

Example: increase US$128,064,032 (2011)

You may include an indicator icon to indicate the change compared to the previous fiscal year; to avoid confusion, place the indicator before the number. Please note that this is intended to depict the direction of change compared to the previous year, not the actual numerical change in value. If no citable information is available for previous fiscal year data, do not use an icon.

increase increase, Steady steady, or decrease decrease
Example: increase US$128,064,032 (2011)

There are different ways to record financial results that are in the millions or billions of dollars. Pick one and use it consistently in all parameters. If using billions, always wikilink the first occurrence as billions, since "billion" has more than one meaning. Use &nbsp; to prevent wrapping between elements of the nubmers, per WP:Manual of Style (dates and numbers).

Do not express results as a decimal such as increase US$.963&nbsp;billion (2010). Instead choose a notation that will allow you to express all results for the period in whole numbers.

In this example use increase US$963&nbsp;million (2010) or increase US$963,000,000 (2010) and apply your choice to all the financial results consistently.

Examples

Exact dollars

| revenue = increase US$42,588,363,000 (2010)
| operating_income = increase US$3,963,082,345 (2010)
| net_income = increase US$2,700,376,442 (2010)
| assets = increase US$64,020,364,188 (2010)
| equity = increase US$10,863,945,862 (2010)

or

Rounded billions

| revenue = increase US$42.588 billion (2010)
| operating_income = increase US$3.963&nbsp;billion (2010)
| net_income = increase US$2.700&nbsp;billion (2010)
| assets = increase US$64.020&nbsp;billion (2010)
| equity = increase US$10.864&nbsp;billion (2010)

or

Rounded millions

| revenue = increase US$42,588&nbsp;million (2010)
| operating_income = increase US$3,963&nbsp;million (2010)
| net_income = increase US$2,700&nbsp;million (2010)
| assets = increase US$64,020&nbsp;million (2010)
| equity = increase US$10,864&nbsp;million (2010)

but not

Do not use an inconsistent mix of the three styles depicted in the examples above. Below is an example of undesirable, inconsistent notation.

| revenue = increase US$42,588&nbsp;million (2010)
| operating_income = increase US$.963&nbsp;billion (2010)
| net_income = increase US$2,700,376,442 (2010)
| assets = increase US$64,020&nbsp;million (2010)
| equity = increase US$10,864,445,862&nbsp;billion (2010)

The HTML mark up produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the organisation's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue article across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

  • If the organisation has an "established", "founded", "opened" or similar date, use Start date (unless the date is before 1583 CE).
  • If the organisation has a URL, use URL.
  • If the organisation has a "coordinates" field, use Coord to include a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr
