भारतगणराज्ये एकोनत्रिंशत् राज्यानि, सप्त केन्द्रशासितप्रदेशाः च सन्ति । तेषु एकोनत्रिंशत् राज्येषु, देहली-पुदुच्चेरी-केन्द्रशासितप्रदेशयोः च मुख्यमन्त्रिणः नियुक्तिः क्रियते । भारतीयसंविधानानुसारं राज्यस्तरे राज्यपालः एव मुख्यः भवति । किन्तु कार्यकर्तृत्वेन मुख्यमन्त्री एव मुख्यः ।
