अहं संस्कृताध्यापकः अस्मि |

   नारिकेलसमाकारा
   दृश्यन्ते हि सुहृज्जनाः ।
   अन्ये बदरिकाकारा
   बहिरेव मनोहराः ॥

- हितोपदेशः

Good-hearted people seem to be formed like coconuts (hard on the outside, soft and sweet within). Others are like jujube fruits which are attractive only on the outside.

स्वगृहे पूज्यते मूर्खः स्वग्रामे पूज्यते प्रभुः । स्वदेशे पूज्यते राजा विद्वान् सर्वत्र पूज्यते ॥

A fool is respected in his home. A chief (or mayor) is respected in his village (or city). A king is respected in his kingdom. A learned person is respected everywhere.

Command respect. Don't demand it. A scholar earns respect everywhere.
